Are hashtags actually useful, or should I avoid putting a string of them on all of my posts?

How does social media connect me with readers if my audience isn’t generally allowed online yet? (I write Middle Grade)

Can I follow agents or authors on social media without coming off like a stalker (or worse) rude? (please read as Hermione Granger)

I don’t have a large social media following, maybe 600 followers on IG. And I’m not the blogging type. I also can’t stand filming myself on Youtube. In short, I don’t have a REAL author platform. With that said, I am interested in the concept that you are your brand. How can I hone in on that with regards to my IG when I’m not published, don’t have a large following, and for the most part, post for me?

Do you recommend starting a blog to gain a following and if yes, do you think book, movie, and TV Show Reviews would be a good blog topic?

How do you reccomend approaching bloggers to ask them to review your book on their blog?

I’m on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and only have time to post once or twice a week. So, when I do post I usually link the post to all 3 sites at once. How important is it to be making distinct and different posts to these sites? (I’m in the process of finding an agent for my first YA novel and don’t have a large following yet.)

Hey, Jess! Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to pick your brain! Do you use Instagram ads? If so, do you have any tips for best practices when including links to things like leadpages or book pages? Do instagram ads get more attention from young adult audiences, or is Facebook a better go to for ads? Thanks again!

    Hello,
What exactly do you mean by ‘branding’?

Hi, Jess! Thank you for taking our questions. On social media, specifically Twitter, should we tweet mostly about writing and things we’re writing about?

I have a popular blog and have a large following through it. But I know there is a big world of authors I should connect with on Twitter. Besides following them, how do I develop relationships with writers and authors? Also how do you connect with readers on Twitter or potential ones?

Thank you for taking the time to do this! When do you think is a good time for a new author to launch their own website? Before querying, after a book deal is made, ect?

How much of our personal life should be shared on social media when we are trying to authentically connect with others, especially when the topics we write might be personal or close to our hearts?

What if you aren’t naturally comfortable interacting on social media? Should you force yourself to do it, or will the awkwardness show through? Is it enough to have a website with a newsfeed?

Hi Jess! I do social media (facebook, IG) as part of my day job, which also turns into a round-the-clock job with the reality of social media never being “off.” How do you allot time to managing/maintaining/building your social presence without feeling like you are always “on” and responding to or posting content? Do you schedule time or just manage it as you go?

Hey Jess! What’s your take on posting some of what you write on instagram? I’ve seen a lot of authors grow their audience this way. Sometimes they post content from what they’re currently writing to draw readers in. Just wondering if this is something you’d recommend to help authors grow, or whether it’s something we should shy away from.

Should authors have a separate ‘author’ page when it comes to platforms such as instagram? My personal instagram has almost 2,000 followers that I’ve gained organically, and it seems silly to have to start over from scratch, but I don’t want to look unprofessional. I will admit that I don’t post about writing super often on my personal page, but it’s something I’d like to incorporate into my page along with personal posts, if possible, opposed to starting a brand new page. What are your thoughts on this?

What ideas do you have for creating websites for unpublished authors? Best sites to use. What should we include? Do we mention our WIPs?

What would you advise we include in a press kit? Should that be accessible as a page on our website?
